Privacy Notice

Dated 25 October 2026. This is the same notice every player accepts in the app.

The short version
  • Your exact location never leaves your phone. Our server only gets a rounded area, and never stores or logs it.
  • Other players see your username, your county and your game scores and progress. Nothing else.
  • No adverts, no selling your data, no tracking or analytics companies.
  • You can delete your account and all its data yourself, at any time, in Profile > Delete Account. You can also ask us for a copy of your data.

Who we are

Aerobove is run by Jamie Conroy, the developer of Aerobove, based in the UK, who is responsible for your data. Contact: support@aerobove.app.

What we collect and why

  • Email address: to sign you in with a one-time code. It is never shown to other players.
  • Username: identifies you in the game, on leaderboards and to friends.
  • Home country and county: to place you on county and national leaderboards.
  • Your game: the aircraft you grab and when, the flight details and the aircraft's position at the time, your XP, missions, bingo, achievements, streaks, leaderboard results, and your friends and friend requests.
  • Settings: units, sound, grab radius and similar choices.
  • Error reports: if something goes wrong, the app sends a short technical description so it can be fixed. It is linked to your account and holds no location.
  • Notifications (only if you turn them on): a code your phone gives us so we can send notifications to it, and which kinds you want. It is deleted when you turn notifications off, sign out or delete your account.

Your location

Aerobove uses your phone's location, only while the app is open, to find aircraft near you. Your exact position never leaves your phone.

To fetch aircraft, the app sends our server a rounded area (a grid square about 7 by 4 miles). It is used once and never stored or logged.

That request also carries proof that you are signed in, so only Aerobove players can use our server. The server checks it and keeps nothing.

A grab records where the aircraft was when you grabbed it. Because you can only grab aircraft within your radar ring, that position is within about 10 miles of where you were.

Who can see your data

  • All players: your username, county and country, XP, grab counts, streaks, bingo progress, fastest grab time, most recent achievement and leaderboard positions.
  • You and the other person: friend requests between you, and that you are friends.
  • Your accepted friends, only if you choose to share your grabs: the aircraft you've grabbed (type, airline, registration, photo, rarity and points) and the day you grabbed each one, shown from the next day. Never the time, where you were or where the aircraft was. You're asked once, and can change it in Settings at any time.
  • Your accepted friends, when you tap Share with friends on a grab: that grab straight away, with how long ago you shared it, but never where you were. You can undo it.
  • Nobody else sees your email address or your location, and nobody sees your individual grabs unless you share them with your friends.

Companies that handle data for us

We do not sell your data, show adverts, or use analytics, tracking or advertising companies.

  • netcup: hosts our server and database in the EU (Austria).
  • Zoho (EU data centre): hosts our email, so if you email us it handles your message and address. Zoho's ZeptoMail service (also EU) delivers your sign-in code emails: it receives only your email address and the code, and records no opens or clicks.
  • Planespotters.net: your phone loads aircraft photos directly from them, so they see your phone's internet address and which photo is requested. Their own privacy policy applies.
  • Apple and Google: provide the app stores you download Aerobove from, and deliver notifications to your phone if you turn them on (Apple to iPhones, Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging to Android phones). They receive your phone's notification code and the notification's text.
  • FlyItalyADSB (Nesso Labs S.r.l., Italy) provides the live aircraft data, with adsb.lol as a backup. Our server fetches the data from them for the whole of the UK, so neither receives anything about you.

Our legal basis

  • To provide the game you signed up for (contract): your account, location use, grabs, leaderboards and friends.
  • Our legitimate interest in keeping the app working and secure: error reports.
  • Your consent: sharing your grabs with your friends, which you choose and can turn off at any time in Settings, and each grab you choose to share straight away.
  • Your consent: notifications, which you turn on yourself and can turn off at any time in Settings. Messages telling you what you've missed while away are only sent if you separately agree to them.

Where your data is stored

Our server is in the EU (Austria), which UK law recognises as giving adequate protection. Your sign-in code emails are sent by our server through Zoho ZeptoMail in the EU. If you turn notifications on, Apple or Google may deliver them from outside the UK under their own safeguards.

How long we keep it

We keep your data while you have an account. When you delete your account in the app (Profile > Delete Account), your data is deleted from our live database straight away; if you ask us by email instead, we do it within 30 days. Our backups are kept for 14 days, so it is gone from those within a further 14 days.

Our server logs do not record your internet address or location.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, or to receive it in a portable format. Email support@aerobove.app and we will reply within one month.

You can stop using Aerobove at any time and delete your account yourself in Profile > Delete Account, or ask us to.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113).

Age

You must be 13 or older to use Aerobove.
